The Headquarters, Western Naval Command (HQ WNC) has conducted its Third Quarter Route March for 2026 at the Navy Town Modern Sports Complex, Ojo, Lagos.
The exercise was part of sustained efforts to enhance physical fitness, discipline and operational readiness among personnel and corps members.
The Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral A.A. Mustapha, GSS, mni, was represented by the Chief Staff Officer, Rear Admiral N.C. Ekwom, who delivered the address of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, AM.
In his address, the Chief of the Naval Staff emphasised that physical fitness has become a critical part of navy service, noting that, “naval service has evolved beyond traditional maritime responsibilities.”
He noted that personnel continue to serve alongside sister services and other security agencies in joint operational theatres, contributing significantly to ongoing counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations across the country.

The chief of naval Staff further stated that the unity and discipline displayed during the route march are particularly significant as the nation approaches the 2027 General Elections and the attendant electioneering activities.
He reiterated that the Armed Forces have a constitutional responsibility to remain professional, preserve national stability and support the democratic process strictly within the ambit of the law and in line with duly authorized directives.
