Renowned engineer and society figure, Engr. Babatunde Odufuwa, has called on individuals to cultivate a strong vision, remain steadfast in the face of adversity and embrace perseverance as essential ingredients for achieving meaningful success in life.
Odufuwa made the call as he marked his 70th birthday in grand style at White Stone Event Place on Saturday in Lagos, attracting an impressive roll-call of dignitaries, captain of industry, entertainment icons, media personalities and society figures.
The glamorous celebration had the public presentation of his two books, ‘My Life: Exciting twists, turns, grace and triumphs’ and ‘A Search for Unity in the African Church,’ publications that explore personal experiences and the quest for unity within the African Christian community.
Odufuwa explained that running into a brick wall is also part of life, nothing that, “those who run into a brick wall and want to run back are never successful. When you face it head-on, it may take a while but victory is sure.”
Reviewing the books, a professor of Molecular Plant Pathology and Vice-Chancellor, Southwestern University, Adetunji Amusa, said the double celebration provided an opportunity to reflect on the importance of resilience, purposeful living and the enduring value of documenting experiences for posterity, bringing attention to themes of personal development, faith and collective responsibility,
He said, “I have known the author for twenty years. He is a visionary leader, full of wisdom, who remains focused once convinced of a worthy cause. With the public presentation of his books, he had laid a foundation for the church’s financial sustainability, an important achievement in today’s challenging economic climate.
“He is a visionary leader committed to empowering millions of youths through quality education.”
While underscoring the need to stay focus amidst challenges, Amusa said, “the road to stardom is often like climbing a steep and dangerous mountain, filled with sharp bends, rough paths and deep potholes that make the journey challenging and anxiety ridden. Only those with determination, resilience, doggedness and vision reach the summit.”
He hailed the author’s contribution to literacy, noting that, a person’s wealth is measured by his contribution to development of humanity, while legends are remembered for their lasting impact on society. The literacy work is a testament that Engr Odufuwa has largely fulfilled his divine assignment on earth.”
He stressed that a united Christian community, “must be built on mutual respect and a commitment to shared values, which play important role in promoting peace, compassion, social responsibility and human development.
“The books highlight the importance of resilience, faith, purposeful engagement and the willingness to contribute ideas that can encourage meaningful conversations.
“For younger people seeking direction in an increasingly challenging world, the themes raised by the publications offer a reminder that the pursuit of worthwhile goals demands patience, commitment and the courage to confront obstacles,” he explained.
While delivering his remark on the occasion as the chairman, Prof Doyin Awoyale, a distinguished Legal Scholar and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, hailed Odufuwa for his entrepreneurship feat and contributions to the nation’s growth and development.
He said, “Odufuwa is an icon of excellence, builder of institutions, a man that love God with great wisdom. He combined brilliance with excellence, empowering youth for the next level. His value and legacy and ending impact is a testament to his impact to the nation at large.
The Literary Milestone
At 70, Odufuwa’s decision to celebrate the milestone with the unveiling of two books underscored the importance of intellectual contribution and the preservation of ideas that can stimulate reflection and encourage positive changes in the society and promote growth.
The first book, My Life: Exciting Twists, Turns, Grace and Triumph, focuses attention on the unpredictable nature of life’s journey, where setbacks, unexpected developments and difficult circumstances often test an individual’s determination to succeed.
Its central themes speak to the importance of maintaining a clear sense of direction, learning from life’s experiences and refusing to surrender to challenges that may temporarily obstruct the path to success.
The publication also offers an opportunity to reflect on the role of faith, perseverance and grace in navigating life’s uncertainties, particularly when circumstances appear unfavourable.
Odufuwa emphasised that “success is rarely achieved without difficulties. Rather, the ability to remain focused on a worthwhile goal, adapt to changing circumstances and learn from setbacks often determines how individuals respond to adversity.”
Beyond personal experiences, Odufuwa’s second publication, A Search for Unity in the African Church, addresses a subject of considerable importance to the Christian community.
The book’s theme draws attention to the need for greater understanding, cooperation and a shared sense of purpose among Christian denominations and institutions across Africa.
The quest for unity remains relevant to the Church’s mission, particularly in strengthening Christian fellowship and encouraging collective responses to the moral, social and spiritual challenges confronting society.
Through its central theme, the publication invites reflection on how Christians and church leaders can bridge differences, strengthen relationships and work towards common objectives without necessarily abandoning their distinctive traditions.
The event which started with a thanksgiving service at the Africa Church, Cathedral Sale,Ebute Metta had the sermon delivered by the Rt Revd Prof Dapo Asaju.
The event which brought together family members, friends, associates and well-wishers had Hon. Tosin Odufuwa, Obi Cubana, Mr Segun Akano, the founder and Managing Director, Upper Link Limited and other distinguished guests and professors who shared memorable moments at the 70th birthday celebration.
