Super Falcon
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has unveiled the Super Falcons’ route to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, with the 10-time African champions aiming to secure appearances at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.
Ahead of the Game, the Super Falcons will begin their qualifying campaign in the second round of the African series against Comoros, with both legs scheduled to take place at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo, on 9 and 13 October 2026.
Nigeria, one of the three highest-ranked teams in the qualifying competition, received a bye into the second round and will need to negotiate four two-legged knockout rounds to claim one of Africa’s two available places at the Los Angeles tournament.
Comoros booked their place in the second round after securing a remarkable 30-0 aggregate victory over Sudan.
The Falcons would move to the third round, scheduled for 23 February to 6 March 2027, if the team overcome Comoros.
A place in the fourth round would see Nigeria take on one of Tunisia, Senegal, Benin Republic or Mali between 4 and 12 October 2027.
The final stage of the qualifying race is scheduled for 23 November to 4 December 2027, with Nigeria potentially facing one of Guinea, Cameroon, DR Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Central African Republic, Algeria or Burkina Faso.
Reacting to the development, the NFF on Monday expressed confidence in the Falcons’ ability to attain the qualifying series and secure another appearance at the Olympics.
Nigeria last competed in the women’s Olympic football tournament at Paris 2024, ending a 16-year absence from the Games as the Falcons hope to secure a place in Los Angeles.
