Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, signing the 2026 budget
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has targeted N870 billion Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the state in the 2026 fiscal year.
This was made known when the governor was addressing political appointees and civil servants during a New Year service held at Government House Chapel, Enugu, to mark the commencement of official activities for the year.
Speaking on the need for the budget, Mbah explained that the revenue target formed a major pillar of the state’s N1.62 trillion 2026 budget, adding that fluctuating global conditions and uncertainties surrounding external revenue sources, particularly federal allocations, made it imperative for the state to deepen its reliance on internally generated funds.
According to him, out of the total budget size, N870 billion is projected to come from IGR, while N387 billion is expected from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), and N329 billion from capital receipts.
Mbah urged MDAs to improve efficiency, transparency and service delivery, stressing that revenue growth is directly linked to the quality and speed of services provided to citizens and investors.
According to him, “Given the geopolitical tensions across the globe, revenue projections have become more uncertain. We must therefore work harder, improve our systems and ensure that every agency delivers optimal value to justify the confidence of the people.”
The governor called for more discipline, innovation and collaboration across government institutions, for enhancing the state’s economic base and improving the ease of doing business.
He reiterated his administration commitment to ensure support for reforms aimed at the growth and development of the state.
The governor also appreciated Enugu residents for their continued support, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to accountability, inclusive growth and sustainable development.
