Wavecrest College of Hospitality has reiterated its commitment to strengthening quality education, innovation, and competitive learning through advanced technology. The Deputy Provost, Ms. Ifeoma Nwabachili, made this known at the institution’s 5th Convocation Ceremony, where 234 students received Higher National Diplomas, National Diplomas, and Certificates for the 2022/2023 to 2024/2025 academic sessions.
Speaking on the theme “Let’s Build Africa,” Nwabachili emphasized that technical competence, ethical conduct, and professionalism remain essential in Nigeria’s evolving hospitality industry. She urged the graduands to embrace digital transformation, sustainability, social responsibility, and value-based leadership.
“Digital transformation is now at the core of hospitality operations,” she said, noting that Africa is becoming a digital-first market. She added that what will distinguish graduates is their ability to maintain high standards while upholding the warmth of African service culture. “Technical skills will open the doors, but values will keep you in the room,” she stated.
The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Idris Bugaje — represented by Mrs. Emmanuella Maji — congratulated the graduands and encouraged them to uphold ethical standards and professional integrity. He highlighted the growing demand for skilled hospitality professionals and noted that new career paths are emerging, driven by technology, sustainability, and personalized guest experiences.
Guest speaker and Director of Human Resources at Eko Hotels & Suites, Mr. Emmanuel Michael, said technology is reshaping hospitality, from AI concierge systems to the impact of online reviews. Speaking on “Employability of Hospitality Graduates: Industry Perspective,” he stressed the importance of emotional intelligence, communication, continuous learning, service ownership, and consistency in delivering excellence.
Earlier, the Chairperson of the Women’s Board–Educational Co-operation Society, Mrs. Edna Dafe, praised the graduates and urged them to promote the impact of hospitality on individual and societal well-being. She reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to providing technical competence and ethical integrity, with particular focus on empowering the girl child through education and economic independence.
