A former National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, has called on all opposition parties to hold the All-Progressive Congress government accountable for democracy to thrive.
He spoke in Abuja on Tuesday ahead of his 60th birthday, while calling for a collective effort to build the nation.
On the state of the PDP, Metuh urged the party to strengthen its role as an opposition and hold the government accountable.
“We need the PDP and other opposition parties like the Labour Party, ADC and YPP to rise and hold the government to account. That is the only way democracy can thrive,” he said.
Metuh further urged Nigerians to support the Federal Government in tackling security challenges.
On allegations that he misappropriated N400m during the Goodluck Jonathan administration, Metuh insisted he was unfairly persecuted by the Muhammadu Buhari government.
“There was no issue of N400m missing anywhere. In court, we showed that the money was given to me as the main man in a team led by former BoT chairman Chief Tony Anenih… We submitted our report, and even the former president was shocked at how transparent it was,” he said.
Approaching his 60th birthday on November 28, Metuh said he had forgiven all those involved in his ordeal.
“As I’m getting to 60, I have forgiven everyone, the judge, the EFCC, the media used for the trial and all the key actors,” he said.
