The Nigerian Navy has marked its 70th anniversary, distributing educational materials and gifts items to over 1,000 children in Lagos.
The event, organised by Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) WEY, was part of the Navy’s community relations efforts to commemorate the Nigeria Navy 70th years Anniversary which also coincided with the 2026 Children’s Day celebration.
Speaking on the event, Commander of NNS WEY, Commodore Mohammed Alhassan, said the outreach was conducted under the directive of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas.
He urged the children to remain focused on their education and obey parents and teachers, saying, “The future of Nigeria lies in these young ones.”
The event featured health talks, interactive sessions, and distribution of educational materials and gifts to the children.
Raphael Ekuma, Commander of the Naval Air Station, Ojo, said the programme aimed to strengthen relations between the Navy and host communities.
