The Senate of Bayero University Kano has confirmed the expulsion of 171 students over the falsification of admission entry credentials.
The Senate made this approval during its 433rd meeting following an investigation by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities.
In a statement published in the weekly bulletin of the University, the affected students presented forged credentials during their admission process.
According to the statement in parts: “The Senate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), at its 433rd meeting held on March 4, 2026, has approved the expulsion of 171 students for falsifying their admission entry qualifications.
“The offence constitutes a violation of Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of the institution General Examinations and Academic Regulations, which prescribes expulsion for such misconduct.”
It was also quoted that the move became necessary to sanitize the institution academic records.
In a related development, the Senate also approved the expulsion of Yusuf Muhammad Sani, a student of the Department of Civil Engineering, for alleged involvement in physical assault on invigilators during an examination.
The institution said the incident disrupted the conduct of the examination and violated its regulations on student discipline.
The management reaffirmed its commitment to upholding academic integrity, warning that breaches of its rules would continue to attract strict sanctions.
“The University stresses that any breach of its regulations will continue to attract appropriate sanctions in accordance with established rules.
“This mass expulsion serves as a stern warning to current and prospective students of the institution that BUK maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward both academic fraud and indiscipline,” the statement read.
