Following the annual “Oro” festival beginning from Wednesday, July 30 to Tuesday, August 5, 2025, Ogun state has declared a seven-day daily midnight curfew, from 12am to 4am.
Ijebu Ode, Ogun State residents are therefore bracing for the annual event.
The Local Government Chairman, Dare Alebiosu, made this announcement in a statement on Tuesday, adding that, the curfew was in observance of traditional rites.
This traditional observance, primarily an all-male affair, typically restricts movement for women and non-initiates during its rituals, with authorities emphasising strict compliance for public safety and cultural preservation.
Alebiosu said, “The general public is hereby informed that there will be a daily Oro curfew across Ijebu Ode Local Government Area for seven consecutive days, beginning from Wednesday, 30th July to Tuesday, 5th August 2025.
“The curfew will be in effect daily from 12midnight to 4am during this period.
“This restriction is in observance of traditional rites.”
“All movement is strictly prohibited, and residents are strongly advised to remain indoors for their safety.
“We appeal to all residents, especially non-indigenes to cooperate fully with this directive, in respect for our customs and to maintain public order.
“Thank you for your understanding and compliance.”
