The Gombe State chapter of the Social Democratic Party has suspended four of its members following what it described as “gross misconduct, political hypocrisy, and acts aimed at destabilising the party.”
The decision was sequence to a meeting held by the State Executive Committee, where the leadership reaffirmed its commitment to party discipline and internal cohesion.
The suspended members included: Mr Aron Yakubu (Assistant Secretary), Usman Yahaya (Assistant Publicity Secretary), Lukaman Adamu Elkanem (Member, Contact & Mobilisation Committee), and Musa Muhammad Ali (Chairman, Gombe Local Government SDP).
The party however barred them from all party-related activities pending the conclusion of an internal investigation.
This was contained in a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary of SDP, Abdulkadir Kumo, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, “No one is above the law of the party. These suspensions are necessary to preserve the integrity and unity of the party.”
In the interim, Muhammad Adamu, popularly known as Auwal SMS, has been appointed as the acting chairman of the Gombe Local Government chapter of the party.
Kumo warned the suspended individuals against parading themselves as party officials, stating that any such attempt would “be seen as an affront to party authority and will carry further consequences.”
The party has constituted a disciplinary committee to investigate the matter and submit its findings within a specified timeframe.
Members of the committee include: Barr. Nuruddeen Bello (Chairman and State Legal Adviser), Dalhatu Bello Umar (Zonal Chairman, Gombe North), Ibrahim I. Jalo (Zonal Chairman, Gombe Central), Engr. M. Abdulkadir Kumo (State Publicity Secretary) and Muhammad Hassan (Ag. State Secretary), who will serve as secretary.
Kumo emphasised unity and vigilance, saying, “Let it be known that no amount of conspiracy, internal sabotage, or external manipulation will derail the train of progress we have set in motion.”
He added, “SDP is not a playground for impostors or political merchants. Those bent on dancing to the tune of our opponents should take a bow now – the door is wide open.”
