The Christian Faith Reporters Association (CFRA) strongly condemns the recent brutal killings of innocent civilians in Jos, Plateau State, which occurred on Palm Sunday—a day of peace, reflection, and spiritual significance for Christians across Nigeria and the world.
This latest attack reportedly carried out by heavily armed assailants who invaded defenseless communities, has once again plunged families into grief, leaving behind a trail of death, destruction of homes, and devastation of farmlands. These recurring acts of violence in Jos and other parts of the country are not only reprehensible but have become one too many.
This information was contained in a press statement issued by the, President, Christian Faith Reporters Association (CFRA), Adeola Ogunlade on Thursday
He said, “CFRA expresses deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and affected communities.”
Ogunlade stressed that “the sanctity of human life must be upheld at all times, and no Nigerian should be subjected to such senseless brutality. Every citizen has the fundamental right to live, work, and thrive in any part of the country without fear of molestation, displacement, or death.”
While we acknowledge the efforts of both the Federal and State Governments in addressing insecurity, he said, “it is evident that more decisive, proactive, and sustained measures are urgently required.”
“The persistent nature of these attacks suggests that existing strategies are insufficient to curb the menace. Nigerians deserve to sleep with both eyes closed, assured of their safety and security,” he added.
He, therefore call on the government at all levels to move beyond routine condemnations and order an immediate and thorough investigation into the killings, with a commitment to transparency and accountability, adopt a comprehensive, long-term strategy aimed at confronting these killings headlong.
He suggested that intelligence gathering should be strengthened with an improved security presence in vulnerable communities, to swiftly apprehend and prosecute perpetrators to serve as a deterrent to others.
He urge the authorities to ensure that affected victims are accorded befitting burials with adequate support for families who had suffered losses.
Ogunlade called for a deliberate and sustained effort to restore peace and guarantee that Jos and its environs remain safe for all residents, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or background.
CFRA reiterates that the continued invasion of civilian communities by armed groups, resulting in loss of lives, destruction of property, and disruption of livelihoods, is totally unacceptable.
“The time for rhetoric has passed; what Nigerians demand now is urgent, concrete, and measurable action. We stand in solidarity with the people of Jos and all communities affected by violence across the nation and call on all stakeholders to work collaboratively toward lasting peace and security in Nigeria,” the statement read.
